When is it convenient to change the home theater system to a new model? Here are a number of signs to consider to replace the home theater system.
Is it worth repairing a home theater system?
The home theater system generally consists of a receiver and a set of speakers, which are all components subject to possible failures. Faced with a rather serious malfunction that prevents correct operation, there are some aspects that you must evaluate to choose whether to repair or proceed with a new purchase.
Convenience is, as often happens, the result of the comparison between the cost of any technical intervention and the expense to replace the entire system or only the defective component. The decision is far from simple given the countless possible configurations, adopted according to your needs and the audio quality you want to achieve.
In this regard, the most common solution are all-in-one single-brand systems which include amplifier and speaker kits to reproduce high and low frequencies. Of course, you can find entry level products costing less than 200 euros, up to noble brands that require investments even higher than 3,000 euros.
If you are a true enthusiast of sound effects and high-definition listening, you can opt for the purchase of compatible components of different brands and customize the system to the maximum, but the final cost will reach really substantial figures.
It is quite evident that if the problem concerns an inexpensive home theater system, there is very little convenience in attempting to repair it. The situation is completely different for systems costing several thousand euros in which it is always worth inquiring about the feasibility of the intervention and the amount of the budget. Very often it is enough just to replace a damaged speaker or install a new amplifier to have a home theater system as good as new.
Improve audio quality and have new features
Many times, a home theater system is replaced, although still fully functional, to move to a system with better performance. This does not mean changing the whole system but also a single component. For example, if you want deeper bass, a new subwoofer might be enough.
Buying a home theater under 10000 gives you new features such as video management with 4K resolution or higher, Wi-Fi connection, app control and compatibility with voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home. You may also decide to retire the old system to benefit from the convenient wireless speaker connection and no longer have unsightly cables to camouflage.
The amplifier does not turn on
Among the most common malfunctions is the lack of power supply to the receiver. Before unnecessary alarmism I advise you to check the connections since any movements during cleaning may have disconnected them. If everything is in order, the problem concerns the power supply board or in any case a short circuit that blew the fuse or sent the device into safety lockout. The causes are usually a sudden overvoltage in the network, a lightning strike, or the deterioration of components (integrated, transistors, etc.) due to natural overheating after years of use.
You no longer hear the audio
If suddenly the audio disappears, the problem is to be found in the connections or in the amplifier. In the first case it could just be an RCA or optical audio signal cable connected to the TV that have accidentally come off. The much more serious situation concerns a failure of the power unit which must be checked by a technician to understand the extent of the damage and the feasibility of the repair.
Poor audio quality
A loss of quality in sound reproduction compared to the usual standard is a signal that something is wrong. The cause could lie in the electronics of the receiver which no longer correctly manages the signals coming from the source.
I also suggest you check the settings as you may have inadvertently selected particular effects that modify the soundstage you are used to. Obviously, the speakers are subject to natural wear and a progressive loss of efficiency over the years, consequently the audio quality decreases over time.
A speaker no longer emits any sound
In a home theater system, speakers are among the most frequently damaged components. The clear signal is a reproduction that is no longer clean but accompanied by noises and distortions. Following a significant drop in bass, the subwoofer is responsible instead, which has lost power or stopped working. In such circumstances it is easy to identify the problem and fix it by replacing the defective speaker.
A damaged subwoofer allows you, more often than not, to replace it even with similar products from other brands. If, on the other hand, you are dealing with a defective satellite, an identical spare part or at least from the same manufacturer with the same technical characteristics should be used. In wireless systems it is necessarily necessary to find an identical speaker capable of connecting with the central unit.
Defective control interface
The home theater system is managed via the console on the amplifier or with the supplied remote control. Having two alternatives and in case one is compromised, you can still take advantage of the system without problems. Moreover, the latest generation models also allow you to manage it via the app, so any damage to the physical controls does not force you to replace it and, if desired, even repair it.
